Why Cheap Home Saunas Fail (What Breaks First)

When I get a call for a “brand new” sauna that’s already acting up, it’s rarely bad luck. It’s construction quality, install shortcuts, or electrical mismatch. Heat exposes the truth.

🧱 Thin Panels + Weak Joinery

Budget units often flex during assembly. Repeated heating and cooling loosens everything: doors go out of square, gaps appear, and sessions stop feeling effective.

⚡ Electrical Corners Get Hot

Undersized circuits, shared outlets, or loose connections cause nuisance trips and hot spots. Even if it “runs,” that’s not the same as being safe.

Craft note: This is the same trust problem I wrote about in The Fading Craftsman. Shortcuts look cheaper now and cost more later.
